Light Object

2021

How does artificial light change our perception of urban space?

Irrlicht is a lighting object addressing the issue of light pollution in such environments. The project visualizes the gradual spread of artificial light by translating an illuminated city map onto a circular glass surface.

Placed above three tealights within a solid concrete base, the object slowly reveals the city’s contours as darkness gives way to light. Through this gradual process, Irrlicht makes the presence and expansion of artificial light perceptible over time.

Developed over eight weeks for the Budenzauber event.
