Spirit- and Champagne Bottle

TEAM: Mergen

2021

Two glass bottles explore contrasting expressions of volume, surface, and light.

Tenda is a champagne bottle defined by soft vertical folds that run continuously from shoulder to base. The surface tension created by these pleats gives the bottle a calm, upright presence while subtly modulating reflections. Light moves along the contours rather than breaking on edges, emphasizing verticality and restraint. The form balances decorative rhythm with structural clarity, allowing the glass to appear light despite its volume.

The spirits bottle follows a different logic. Its geometry is sharper and more compact, shaped by intersecting planes and a pronounced push-up. Faceted surfaces fragment incoming light, creating shifting reflections and a cooler, more precise character. The form feels dense and controlled, with the base anchoring the bottle visually while enhancing optical depth through refraction.

Together, the two bottles investigate how glass can communicate character through surface articulation and light behavior—one through continuity and softness, the other through tension and geometry.
